Mission: To
provide adult education opportunities, to students with the potential
and motivation to
advance their education, which leads to enhanced knowledge, strengthened
basic skills and improved literacy.
Program Description: The
Adult Basic Education/GED program is designed to prepare individuals
to successfully obtain the GED credential. People drop out
of high school for many reasons including: health issues,incompatibility
with traditional educational settings, pregnancy, or home schooling. Regardless
of the reason, the GED credential provides individuals with increased
career opportunities and access to advanced training and higher
education. During the registrations process student educational
needs are assessed and personal goals are set. This program is
designed for students that have the desire, maturity and motivation
to assume the responsibilities inherent in the pursuit of the GED
credential.
Program Services: TABE
Testing: Upon registering, students are
administered the Test of Adult Basic Education
(TABE). The TABE is a widely used test that provides the
staff with important information regarding an individuals
personal learning needs. Classroom Instruction: Qualified
staff prepare classroom sessions that are designed to address
the topics needed to pass the GED test. Classes are
informal and promote the forming of a learning community.
Classes are held from 9 a.m. until noon on Tuesdays through
Thursdays. Tutoring: Individual and small group
tutoring are conducted to meet the individual needs of each
student. Pikes
Peak Workforce Center Counseling and
Program Enrollment: A staff member from the
Pikes Peak Workforce Center is available on Wednesday mornings
to provide workforce counseling and program enrollment to
qualified students. GED Pretest: When the staff determines
a student is ready, the GED pretest is administered. Passing
the GED pretest signifies that the student is prepared to
take the official GED test. The student is then encouraged
to schedule the test at the Pikes Peak Community College
Testing Center and is requested to report the test scores
to the Adult Basic Education Coordinator. Childcare: Free
childcare is provided to all registered students in the program
that need these services. Our childcare provider is experienced
and state certified.

program is funded by grants and gifts from The Graham Foundation,
Sam S. Bloom Foundation, Rampart Library District, Cripple Creek
- Victor Gold Mine, Family Resource Center Association and in kind
support from the Cripple Creek - Victor School District
You must be 16 years of age and not enrolled in
school or have the permission of your school to attend these classes.
Sessions are free of charge and open to all residents of Teller
