Mission: To empower young mothers
in Teller County to take charge of their individual situations
by (1) providing or referring them to services that meet their
immediate needs, (2) developing goals and objectives to improve
the mother’s future prospects and (3) establishing a mothers
support group to network mothers, provide emotional support and
introduce new parenting skills and life knowledge.
Program Description: Approximately
20 children are born to teen mothers in Teller County each year.
Many
of these young women can experience periods of depression, feelings
of isolation, and need for basic information regarding parenting,
nutrition and related life skills. Since Y-ME was initiated
last April, 15 young mothers have received services.
Approximately
10 young mothers and their babies attend the monthly networking
luncheon, which features an educational program, crafts and support
group networking. The program also provides emergency services
as well as clothing, baby furniture and accessories to these young
mothers.
Funding: The program is
funded by Cripple Creek EPYCs and the Temple Hoyne Buell Foundation.
Information: The
Cripple Creek Y-ME group meets the first Thursday of each month
at the Parks and Rec Center, from 10:30 - 12:30 p.m. For more information,
call CPFRC at 686-0705.
