Families Against Drugs “Safe
Homes Parent Pledge” Information
North Teller Build A Generation (NTBAG) and Families
Against Drugs (FAD) work together with our schools and community
to create a healthy environment for all of us, particularly young
people, in which the use of alcohol and other drugs is not the “norm”.
According to the most recent Healthy Kids Colorado
Surveys administered at Woodland Park Middle School and Woodland
Park High School, young people in our community who drink alcohol
report getting the alcohol from their own homes, the homes of friends,
or from having an older sibling, peer or adult purchase it for
them.
In Fall of 2006, we asked parents and guardians
of Woodland Park RE-2 Middle and High School students to join us
in our efforts to reduce availability of alcohol to youth in our
community by signing the Families Against Drugs (FAD) “Safe
Homes” pledge and choosing to be included in our new “Safe
Homes” Directory. Over 400 families in our community chose
to participate in this new endeavor!
Families Against Drugs (FAD) “Safe Homes” pledge
encourages parents to cooperate with each other and our community
to reduce risk to young people. By signing and participating, you
indicated that you agreed with all of the points on the Parent
Pledge and wanted to be included in our Safe Homes Network Directory.
Please use this Directory as a resource to help you keep your children
safe and free from accessing alcohol and other drugs. You can also
keep your children safe by locking up any alcohol that you may
keep in your home.
The purpose of this pledge and directory is to
assist you in building a support network with other responsible
adults in our community. This pledge is not a legally binding contract,
but rather an agreement among the members of the Families Against
Drugs (FAD) Parents Network.
A copy of the “Safe Homes Parent Pledge” is
written below:
- We welcome communication among parents regarding upcoming
parties or gatherings.
- We provide a safe environment where alcohol and drugs
will not be made available to youth during parties or gatherings
in our homes.
- We are present to supervise parties and gatherings
in our homes.
- If we observe a minor under the influence we will make
every effort to contact their parent or guardian.
- We communicate with any parent who observes our children
using drugs and/or alcohol.
- We also pledge to take precautions against any social
activities being held at our home in our absence.
We have printed directories available to all who
signed the pledge and/or request a copy otherwise. You can also
access this directory over the internet by clicking on this link: http://www.cpfrc.org/fad.htm .
Together we can all make a difference!
